Abstract

Also those modern machine tools, the construction of which is believed to be optimal, have not yet reached their final development. A detailed study of manufacturing lathes has shown that a whole series of improvements would be possible. The report gives a suggestion for a new type of manufacturing lathe for higher requirements. The main features of the new type are: welded steel construction, a very simplified construction of the headstock with a continuous regulation of the number of revolutions a very rigid construction of the lathe bed, sliding carriage with a three-point support, improved distribution of the forces in the guideways, central position of the serew spindle, and a partially changed construction of the tailstock. The machine tool is to be especially recommended for high precision machining of smal and medium size workpieces.
